The Amazing Race Recap
By Daron Aldridge
February 24, 2010
Jet and Cord's lead is virtually gone as they are taking the boat to the island and Joe and Heidi, Carol and Brandy, Jordan and Jeff, and Brent and Caite all arrive. Also, the second direct bus has arrived in Puerto Varas with all the teams but brothers Dan and Jordan shooting out of the terminal in their car.
Dan states that Jordan is their designated stick shift driver and oh, the homosexual innuendos fly. As Dan makes a presumably innocent mention of the stick shift, Jordan drops the Freudian slip that this is just a fallacy but pronounces it as "phallus-cies." This awkward exchange was for nothing anyway as the car wouldn't go because Jordan failed to take the emergency brake off. I foresee them having another time penalty in their future because of missing little details.
Jet and Cord finally get to the leg's first task – a Detour back on the mainland between Llama or Condor. For Llama, the teams must dress a llama with a blanket and scarf. For Condor, teams have to put on a wetsuit, big condor feet boots and a big condor glider. After getting dressed up they must flap the wings on the condor suit and jump off a dock to a bouy.
The cowboys select Llama and with no trouble at all pinpointing what appears to be a near comatose llama, they are done with the Detour and off to the next challenge. I truly hope I'm correct when I proclaim this is the EASIEST task of this season. If not, then I will begin to lose faith in the producers because a challenge should be challenging.
Our newly allied teams both go with Llama and face more unruly beasts, one of which kicks Joe in what looks like his crotch. When I get done laughing (because Homer was right about the "Man getting hit with football" film being hilarious every time), we see that it only hit his leg. Better luck next time, Senor Llama.
Team South Carolina opts for Condor and with some Chariots of Fire-worthy slow motion running, they do more splatting than soaring. While they are retrieving their clue, the teams of Heidi and Joe and Carol and Brandy also finish playing dressing up with the llama. All three are neck and neck for second through fourth place. They are followed shortly after by Brig Brother's Jordan and Jeff taking on the Condor and Steve and Allie doing their own father/daughter dance off a short pier. A belly flop would be better than how a few other teams are faring. Let's check in with the bottom of the food chain.
Dan and Jordan are cruising around the Chilean countryside bickering at one another about who should be navigating, when it's clear that neither of them is. The final bus pulls into Puerto Varas and Nanna Jody and Shannon are finally in the race portion of the leg...sort of. They are trying to power their car with thoughts of sunshine, puppy dogs and rainbows because Jody declares that of all her grandchildren, Shannon is the one she knows the best and admires the most. In your face, other not-so-favored grandchildren. I hope you already knew your pecking order with grandma because otherwise this would be one AWKWARD family episode watching party.
