The Amazing Race Season 28 Recap - Episode 10
Monkey Dance
By Kim Hollis and David Mumpower
May 2, 2016
After a brief Dana meltdown, Matt finally opens the cylinder to find their clue. They’re very aware of both their last place position and their failings in the game. Well, other than the fact that Dana is a miserable human being the majority of the time. She doesn’t seem to be cursed with self-awareness.
With the clue from the dancing monkey in hand, Tyler & Korey are now making the Detour choice between Haul or Harvest. For Harvest, teams must propel themselves along a marked course in a canoe to fill a tarp with seaweed. Once they have it, they’ll turn it in to a judge, who will give them both a clue and some face cream. Yeah, don’t ask.
For Haul, teams will have to drive 50 coconuts and 4 chickens across a bouncy, rickety suspension bridge. It sounds like the U-Turn will be found at the end of the Detour. Both the first two teams choose Haul, and Korey notes that it’s easier for him and Ashley to pick up chickens than it will be for other teams, because there are a lot of chickens in the pen and they can select the ones that are calmer.
Sheri & Cole and Brodie & Kurt arrive at the monkey man at about the same time, and these two teams will also be choosing to Haul. Same for Dana & Matt, which means no one has any real hope of picking up an advantage here. On the plus side, it should be exciting, because Brodie & Kurt should be able to carry more coconuts than the other teams. Will the head start for Tyler & Korey and Burnie & Ashley to U-Turn the Frisbee guys?
Well, Brodie & Kurt may have bitten off more than they can chew, because both of them are dropping coconuts as they cross the suspension bridge. Meanwhile, Dana can only handle one chicken at a time. Only jerk chickens seem to be remaining. Also, as teams run by on the bridge to get more coconuts, it shakes it for the teams who are trying to get across while balancing their items in their arms.
Tyler & Korey finish the task first, which means they will now be making their way to Warung Sunrise, where they will find both the U-Turn and their next instructions. It’s a Double U-Turn, so it’s about to get super real. And… Tyler & Korey do in fact U-Turn Brodie & Kurt. Depending on how crafty Burnie & Ashley are, this could be a move that puts the Frisbee guys in last place.
Now that they’ve got the strategic portion of the leg out of the way, Tyler & Korey will now proceed to a paddleboard shop. Team Rooster Teeth arrives at the U-Turn, and after a moment of consideration, they U-Turn Tyler & Korey. It’s a brillian move that ensures that Brodie & Kurt are the only team that will have to complete the second half of the Detour. Unless something goes terribly wrong for another team during the remainder of the leg, we’re probably going to be saying goodbye to our Frisbee friends this evening (unless Phil has a nasty trick up his sleeve). Although they’ve managed to move up to third place, the guys are about to have their spirits crushed.
